Turn Off Stability Control
« on: 04 March 2014, 11:22 »
Anyone know whether it is possible to fully turn off the stability control? Perhaps via VAGCOM? Annoying how VW can use this as a selling point on the Golf R as it can be turned entirely off.

Just from test vids from motoring press they say it can't be fully switched off.

It looks like regular 4 motion models can disable it too. I have seen a picture of a dash of a 1.6 TDI 4mo that was showing stability control deactivated.

Even if it is possible, I cant see Ross-Tech documenting it as you would be messing with a safety device. Only way to find out would be to compare the coding and adaptions with a 4mo model. Even then the 4wd cars might have a different ABS module to enable it.

I know as standard it can't be fully deactivated however through VAGCOM this may be possible. We need someone with an R to compare VAGCOM notes with! I'm hoping in can be completely turned off and it isn't something buried deep within the ECU.

To be honest i am not a fan of completely turning off driver aids when on the public road. I do however like to turn off traction control as it is a little intrusive during a "spirited" drive.

As you probably know - you can at least opt for "TCS Off" or "Sport Stability Control"

Either push the ESC button to the left of the gear lever or go into the "Car" menus - there are options to opt for them that way too.

Turning off the TCS gave me much more "scrabble" and even some torque steer (I tried it on the way into work this am). Fun! :D

Apparently the guys at http://www.stemei.de have done it. There is some information here http://www.stemei.de/pages/coding/vw-golf-7/esp-funktion-komplett-deaktivieren.php Have your Google translate ready and it appears you need to use a VCP cable and software not the Ross-Tech one

The annoying thing is in "other" countries the GTI has a "Race Mode" like the R does.....I can only assume this mode would totally turn off the ESP
