Water coming out of exhaust
« on: 03 March 2014, 01:33 »
My mk3 golf has been stood whilst being repaired over new year and it seems to be chucking load of water out the exhaust. At first I thought it might have been the head gasket. But I don't seem to be losing any coolant. Any ideas on why this will be happening?

Condensation. Due to the car being stood still and the cold weather at night and sun out during day.

As above.

Run the car very hot, car stationary, and wait till the fan cuts in.
Make sure the exhaust gets really hot and give it plenty of revs.

That should clear out any condensation but do keep a check on water level just in case.

You'd be surprised! Water pools in the catalyst if you leave it for long enough.

Its normal for a stood car. After driving on a few long distance journeys it will stop.

Don't suppose your car is fitted with a DTM style rear box where the end pipes curve upwards.

Just a thought as i had a golf with that pipe on.It had been parked up for over 5 months and had loads of water in when i got it started it up.

You really have to get the exhaust HOT! Thats the only thing that will get the water out.

But as said before keep checking the water level, just in case
