Greedy gits on eBay
« on: 28 February 2014, 12:01 »
Is it just me? There seems to be a rapid increase in people listing mk2's for sale at unscrupulous prices recently like this on eBay
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volkswagen-Golf-GTi-MK2-8v-/121284987133?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item1c3d2608fd

I see a £3k car there for that price you'd expect original engine sub 100,000 miles and no rust at all.
I've looked at done right sheds recently and all priced in the £2000 mark, obviously there must be people buying these

That particular seller seems to concentrate on clean, original cars with plenty of history.

These are exactly the sort of cars that collectors will increasingly be on the lookout for as Mk2s move more firmly into proper classic car territory. Like it or not, the amount of modified cars out there only helps drive up the value of original cars, as that's precisely what classic car enthusiasts look for above anything else.

£4,750 does seem a bit steep though for a car without matching engine and chassis nos.

Seems well overpriced to me, around £3k is about all it is worth.

I agree original cars are fetching top money, but it's the people who think there cars "must be worth the same" which are covered in tacky mods and in need of respraying and welding. Looking at an 8v this weekend hopefully it's the one unless bidding wars start

what bugs me way more than the ridiculous prices they advertise them for is the fact that they get a lot of them of old people who have no idea of the value of them. so the people struggling by on a pension get thrown 100 quid and then the greedy bstads make a fortune when they sell them on

People in buying and selling cars to make money shocker!

People can advertise cars at whatever price they want - the market will decide whether they sell or not.

4* source a LOT of nice stuff, which is advertised for top money.  I have no idea what it sells for and who cares - if they can work these cars out of old/stupid people and flog them on for a profit then their business model is good.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

if people are buying mk2's for more than they are worth and would you have it, we all own mk2's, then I think that's a good thing.
