Passat CCM problems
« on: 22 February 2014, 14:02 »
I know this is a golf forum but a family member has a passat.

I've scanned and there was about 4 codes on the CCM module, few of which are 00947 - Trunk Lid remote Control Switch and 00953 - Interior Light Time limit

Basically when driving, the screen on the clocks keeps on saying all the doors are open when they are fully closed. All interior lights are staying on, key fob will unlock but will not lock doors(guessing down to the door open problem)

The owner of the car removed the battery to charge it, then replaced the battery now this problem has happened.

I'm thinking the CCM module needs replacing?

Thank you

Your best bet would be to have a look through the forum on www.ukpassats.co.uk (you need to sign up to view thread replies, but it's free) and also the Skoda Superb Mk1 forum on www.briskoda.net

Lots of CCM information on there; the problems are almost always caused by water leaks through the pollen filter and/or door window regulator carrier plates. The wiring under the carpet has lots of joints which corrode in the wet, and the CCM can get water in it too, giving rise to the kind of problems you have described.

Another issue, microswitches in the door locks go faulty and need replacing, again info on those forums, and lots on youtube too.

It's all fixable, just needs a bit of patience.

lift the passenger carpet and have a look. the "water tight" box it lives in leaches the water through the fabric harness wrap and it enters the ccm through the connectors. If you're lucky you can clean the corrosion off the plugs, dry everything out and it may work again.

if it is water getting in though you'll need to sort that, its usually blocked up drainage holes under the scuttle overflowing the water through the pollen filter housing

I got the CCM out, all under the carpet was wet and smelt awful.. the wiring connector had bit of white stuff on it then the CCM itself doesn't look right

Look in the middle, the connector on the middle left looks a bit bad

might go again if you clean up the terminals, you could always pop the casing open and have a look to see if there is damage to the board or components. Usually when they've got that far though its game over, but you won't know until you dry everything out and plug it in to try. you'll need to check for fault codes and see if the ccm is getting the correct signals from all the sensors, door open, locked etc.

I've looked at the board and yes there's a bit of what can be described as mold near the connectors. It's drying out now, although when connected to the car.. only the drivers door and rear offside door and boot only flash saying they are open when they're not. So looks like a new unit?

First thing to do is to check the wiring.  Open up the harness and look for the points where the cables are connected.  Crimps are used and then covered with plastic and when wet they corrode. These are the first points to go.
Cut them out and remake the connection, preferably soldered.

There are similar connections in the same harness in the rear footwell.  Same problem there.

Also many plugs and sockets behind the "A" pillar cover in the front passenger footwell.  When damp they corrode like your ccm plugs have done.

This: http://www.headfuzz.co.uk/?q=vw_ccm  gives info.

This:  http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/152490-water-ingress-problemsolved/ has info on stopping it all from happening again.  Post 58 has pics of the wiring joint corrosion.

Best to try all this first as they are usually the first things to go, and it doesn't cost to fix.  Internal ccm problems are less likely.

Just about all the info you need could possible need is on the forum on www.ukpassats.co.uk (you need to sign up to view thread replies, but it's free) and also the Skoda Superb Mk1 forum on www.briskoda.net
