Well here is my short but all VW list:

Mk2 Golf 1.6d
Mk4 Golf 1.4
Mk4 GT TDI 150
Mk5 GTI DSG
Mk7 GTI 6MF

Mk5 is my favorite so far but the mk7 is catching up quickly!
Mk7 CSG GTi 6MF Stage 1, CSS backbox

I've enjoyed al my cars over the years. I normally change regularly, but the I kept the M3 for 5 years as it was just so good, but very expensive to run (every visit to the dealers cost at least £1k!). My wife also likes cars, so over the years she's also had some nice cars, in the mid '90's she had a series of hot hatches such as Golf's and 205's. I expect the Golf to be brilliant for my current needs which are mainly running both of my kids around, and my short commute to work.

1986 XR2
1990 BX GTI
1991-1998 Loads of boring company cars (Rovers)
1998 Fiesta 1.4 Zetec
1999 306 GTI 6
2001 20V V5 Golf
2004 Leon Cupra R
2006 Subaru Impreza WRX PPP
2007 E46 M3 Coupe
2012 MINI Cooper D\Exige S Performance pack

But next Sunday the MINI will be replaced by the Golf :D

1986 Capri 1.6 laser
1988 Golf 8V GTI
1999 Subaru Impreza PPP
2003 Subaru Impreza WRX STI
2002 911 Carrera 2
2002 911 Carrera 2
1997 Mondeo ST24
2003 911 Turbo
2006 RS4
2000 Ferrari 360
2006 Subaru Impreza WRX
2007 Focus ST2
2007 Lotus Exige S
2007 Cayman S
2010 GTR
2006 BMW M6
2007 Impreza WRX estate (still got)
2013 BMW M5 (still got)
2010 S3 sportback
On order - MK7 GTI PP 5dr

Porsche 996 twin turbo was best with M5 close but I've enjoyed all of them for their own reasons if I'm honest. The mk7 tiks more boxes for me than the S3 even though it has less power but I think its a nicer overall package when the discounts available are applied:)

Shortest list?

Alfa 147 1.6
Alfa Mito 1.4 (135)
VW golf GTI Mk 7 pp

Still an Alfa fan but the gulietta cloverleaf wasn't on the same level dynamically, just went straight on when I tried to throw it into a roundabout
Collected Jan 4th: MK7 gti, red, 3dr, PP, DCC (dampers), Dynaudio, Nav

'99 Ford Focus
'02 Ford Focus
'05 Audi A3 1.6 fsi
'07 MK5 VW Golf GTI
'11 MK6 Golf GTD
'13 MK7 Golf GTI

As for best, I was very fond of the mk5 GTI. Very hard to beat that but the mk7 comes close!
Worst was the Audi.

This thread has a very tedious link to the mk7 and has been done to death in other parts of the forum, some of the replies don't even answer the question in the OP.

Just sayin.....

Straight off my test, when everyone else was driving their mam's 1L mini metro, I was driving my Dad's Ford Granada Estate 2.8L Ghia. He had a works van and only really needed the car on a Saturday morning.

Then it went:-

1994 1.1 Peugeot 205 (sold it for more than I paid for it! )
1995 SAAB 900 Turbo (sold it for more than I paid for it! )
1996 1.4 Peugeot 205 GT (sold it for more than I paid for it! )

All following cars bought new:-
1998 1.1 Saxo (First car I bought new, and depreciation on % terms was huge, it was crap)
1999 1.4TDI VW Polo (should have bought a Lupo GTI, I still rue that decision not to get one)
2001 1.9TDI VW Polo GT (100PS PD)
2005 2.0TDI VW Golf GT (140PS PD)
2007 2.0TDI VW Golf GT Sport (170PS PD) - the one the bus clattered at 2 weeks old.
2009 2.0TDI VW Scirocco GT (140PS CR)
2011 2.0TDI VW Scirocco GT (170PS CR) - My favourite VW, it is as fast as my GTD, feels faster.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....
MK7 R 5 door, manual, Lapiz Blue, Prets.

Short list for me as i've only just turned 22.

2003 Saxo VTR
2006 Corsa SXI+ (hated this car)
2008 MK5 Golf Bluemotion
2007 Mini Cooper S JCW edition
2014 VW Golf GTI PP

I have found the new Golf is the best all rounder car i've had. It just does everything i want it to do so effortlessly. The Mini was great fun too but became frustrating as the performance was so inaccessible.
