For evert 3 GTD's only 1 GTI is sold.
If people are thinking GTD's will hold better residuals than a GTI, think again.

They will if 4 x more people want to buy a 3 year old GTD than a 3 year old GTI. Demand needs to exceed supply to keep the residuals high. Really not sure why the GTD would be so popular new but not anywhere near as popular in the nearly new market to force down residuals, with the exact opposite happening for the GTI. They'll both have very good residuals in their segment of the used market.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Most GTD sales will be to company car fleets, some private but nowhere near GTI private sales.
There will be a glut of GTDs on the used car market in 3 years time, GTIs will still be GTIs.

I know it will be worth the wait, just disappointed that the ETA has gone back and that it's nowhere near what I was told it would be via correspondence from leasing company. I'm not very good at waiting for things either, quite impatient to be honest.

Off topic I know but just a quick question re: wing mirrors. I understand they fold in when locking the car and out when unlocking. This may have been raised before but if you manually fold the mirrors in, with the switch inside the car, to get into a garage for example, when you unlock the car will the mirrors not unfold and then hit whatever it is you folded then in for to begin with? Probably a scenario that isn't likely to happen but was just a thought.

On order: GTD 5 Door in Tornado Red
Due for delivery 1st May 2014...at last!

When the mirrors are manually folded in via the switch they remain folded in until you move the switch back into a different position.  This would prevent the mirrors unfolding on unlock.

I work for a large FTSE 100 organisation where we have a substantial UK fleet of "perk" cars and after a little digging with the fleet manager, I gathered that some 20 people (2%) have ordered / taken delivery of GTD's. He said it's the 109 g/km figure (that means it's the same output as a BMW 320 efficient dynamics - the darling of many an exec, apparently), but £5K cheaper - so another £1000 cheaper on company car tax!

By comparison, only one other person has a Golf GTi .... so I'm loving the "exclusivity"!

Our insurance, tax, mot, maintanance is all in - but the lease costs are fairly high
