This GTD better be worth it...

Hello people, I've been a visitor to this site for quite some time now and think it's amazing. I started looking around when I ordered my GTD via leasing company back in September. At point of order I was informed that ETA was likely to be end of February/beginning of March. Fair enough I guess what with the Christmas shutdown etc. A few weeks and emails later I was told 3rd of March ETA.
My current lease car ended on 17th Feb but organised to extend it a couple of weeks.
Just had an email today saying that car is scheduled for build week 13 and "ETA to supplier is 14th April" Arghh!! This car better be worth the wait. Please all you GTD owners, say it is!

Looks like the dealer, the leasing company has gone through have had more than there allocation hence the longer lead time. you should be entitled to a hire car for the wait you have had so far. Also the hire car should save you some bik tax (and you could get some money back from your company). That is if you get a car allowance, The hire car from VW should be no cost.

I ordered my GTD on the 31st October and the tracker says it has been built this week and due for delivery end of March. I am more than sure it will be worth the wait given the feedback from the owners lucky enough to have had their's 

One of the sales guys at work has just ordered a Golf R today for delivery in May 
I was in a similar position to you last year. I had ordered a GTD through work, via a leasing company mid June for a Sept 2013 delivery, which slipped to November then December. I ended up cancelling as they would not offer a hire car from their estimated delivery of end of Sept (they were prepared to offer a hire car from 20 weeks of waiting) then relented to 16 weeks. I got cheeky and asked for keyless as compensation for the extra wait !. Glad I cancelled and have bought as a private purchase.

A lot of people on this forum have gone through the wait and the delays and survived the general frustration of the ordering process.  Honestly,  it's all forgotten once you actually get your hands on the car

I had a personal wait of just over a year as my MK6 GTD went back in October 2012 so had to wait for the MK7 to launch, be built etc and finally received in October 2013!
So yes in my opinion it is well worth the wait!

It is such an awesome motorway car as well as a fun go kart when you want it to be.

It will take a good few thousand miles for it to loosen up and start returning impressive mpg. I've covered 12000km and it's only in the last few thousand that it's starting to feel properly quick.

A shame it's delayed - because all of the GTi's have been coming through much quicker than they forecast! I think this is because VW are selling way more GTD's (and fewer GTi's) than they envisaged ...

In fact it was only this morning that I was telling another forum member that I'd seen 5 MK7 GTD's on my way into work (and I've only seen 3 GTi's in the last year). The GTD seems to have taken over as the company car to have in 2014!

If people are thinking GTD's will hold better residuals than a GTI, think again.

I think as one of the others have said the GTD is a more popular choice thatn the GTI.

I ordered my GTI on 17th Dec and was quoted 16 weeks delivery so i was expecting delivery mid-late April, mines arrived in the UK today !!

Why when the GTD's mpg is not much better than the GTI's

Part of the problem is that the TDI engine is used more across the vag rang. My wife has vRS on order with same engine and its 20+wks on a gd day..
