Nice to see VW actually recalling for this on the Edition 35.  Top marks to VW for this

SHAME on them for NOT recalling the normal GTI for its equally problematic timing chain tensioner.

I'm also waiting on a call back to confirm my booking for the recall... Due my first visit under my service plan and looking at a warranty claim for my delaminating windscreen so hoping to sort it all in 1 visit with any luck

GS,

Thanks for the info on the timing belt. How much is a new one? seems a shame not to change it anyway. I see you are in Bucks, where are you and which dealer are you using?

Peter

I noticed this thread over the weekend. I called my local Stealer earlier today and they hadn't heard about it, but once they checked their systems they found the recall. She wasn't sure how long they'd need the car for so she's going to call me back to book it in. My ED35 has about 17K on it, I assume they'll just re-use the existing timing belt again?

re timing belt, I asked the same question, response was unless contaminated the original will be reused, however I did say I will leave a new one on the passenger seat

also I didn't know the TB interval had changed from every 4y/120k to 5 years or 120k

I can see why it it's being recalled, mine went when I was doing 70ish. There was total loss of power, steering and scary brakes, thankfully I could pull over as there was no other traffic.
I guess mine will be recalled too as VW said they would be putting the same type of pump on because their engineers were satisfied that it was still a quality product.

I wonder how many have actually went bang?

Peter,

I live near Princes Risborough and work near MK.
I will be using Keith Garages,Sorry,Aylesbury Volkswagen/wayside/Lancaster/jardine or whatever the phuck they want to go under from one week to the next, but I still refer to them as Keith's,still mostly the same Tekkie's from years ago, good lads actually, and well into their VW's , plus  I'v known the Mastertech since he was an apprentice and I was in and out of there with my MK2 16v.

Citygate High Wycombe is also highly Recommended, if your looking for a Dealership, again the workshop staff an most of the service reception staff have been there form the year dot when it was Rye Mill.
That goes a long way in my book, means they have plenty of experience with all the models and like their place of work, which usually(but not guaranteed) means the customer gets a proper job done.

Don't know how much TB is,will just ring TPS in the morning and put it on my acc.ill post when I get the price

Thanks,

Princes Risborough, I know it well, back in yesteryear I used to mountain bike from there once a month, great trails! bit of a climb up is it Kop hill ? that sobered the group up... we used to park in the car park next to the roundabout. Thats a very nice area to live in. Did you go and see the hill climb thats based there last year?
I will probably use Citygate Ruislip as it's closest to me in Ickenham. I got the car from Citygate Watford. High Wycombe is a mare to commute in and out of. Aylesbury a little to far. Did you know the price of a TB? thanks for the info.

Yep, Kop Hill climb,i go and watch most years, get some reasonably nice machinery turn up, plus the town almost has a carnival atmosphere too, quite a good day actually, providing the weather is OK.

Had my call back regarding the recall to be told by a rather rude woman that there is no such thing and if there were they would contact me, not the other way round
Mine is a July 2012, just wondering whether it's a particular vin range? Anyone else with a mid 2012 car affected or confirmed for the recall?
