ED35 Recall

Just wanted to pass on some info that i found out yesterday while chatting to VW customer services.

They told me there is a Recall for the Coolant pump( i presume that is a the water pump) on the Ed35, recall was only announced on the 18th Feb and letters should be sent to owners anytime soon.

I spoke with my local dealer yesterday and they had no info yet.

Just booked the dragons Ed 35 in for service this morning , the girl made no mention of it , she did try her best to convince me that the air con needed a £79 service while it was in.

I wasn't convinced enough to agree mind.

I'm not surprised. Mine broke last year and blew the engine apart, they gave me an extra year drivetrain warranty. They told me it was an isolated incident

interesting as i noticed my coolant was a little lower than normal and tipped mine up but no mention when it was serviced a few weeks ago

Update

I can confirm it is now on VW system with dealers, booked mine in this morning, even though i have not received a letter yet.

The recall is indeed the water pump, apparently the pulley can shear and destroy the motor, they suggested as a precaution i only use the car to drive to the vw garage for repair 
Sounds a bit of a severe explanation imo, but i will go with it....

I noticed this thread over the weekend. I called my local Stealer earlier today and they hadn't heard about it, but once they checked their systems they found the recall. She wasn't sure how long they'd need the car for so she's going to call me back to book it in. My ED35 has about 17K on it, I assume they'll just re-use the existing timing belt again?

re timing belt, I asked the same question, response was unless contaminated the original will be reused, however I did say I will leave a new one on the passenger seat 

also I didn't know the TB interval had changed from every 4y/120k to 5 years or 120k

Wow I had no idea it had changed either. I would have thought it was every 60K or 4 years just like it was on the ED30/MKV GTI
