I havent a clue so need help!
« on: 19 February 2014, 18:44 »
I posted few weeks ago about needing advice on mk5. Looking at a mk6 now for around £14,000 ish. What should i look out for and stay away from? obvious high mileage etc scuffs i know alloys etc but what about when test driving what should i look for?

i heard about something to do with dsg on mk5 when pulling away if there was a lurch.. After being put off the Seat cupra due to engine problems really like the overall sound of the gtis just hope i found a reliable one!!!

1. is there much difference between mk5 and mk6 engine wise..?
2. are all mk6's tsi apposed to fsi engine?
3. what am i missing??

appreciated for help as I am new to the gti craze.

1.) Just over all quality inside and out

2.) all MK6 GTI's are TSI, the MK6 Golf R is TFSi (same as edition 30)

3.) A Golf GTI in your life.....

But on a serious note, due to a timing chain issue with early MK6's make sure you get one registered after September 2010 and you will be fine.

No other major issues
MK6 GTI CSG | Revo Stage 2 | Revo Stage 2 Intake | Milltek 3" TB Exhaust | SuperPro Anti Lift Kit | H&R ARB's | Bilstein B12 | TT Short Shifter |Mintex M1144 Race Pads | HEL Braided Lines |

MK5 GTI - DSG + Extras (Sold because DSG was Soooo Boring !!!)

thanks mate! hopefully getting alot closer now! i asked a mechanic and he said when engine cold open bonnet turn it on. if theres a chain type ticking noise for more than a few seconds dont go near it. guessing that is the timing chain problem.

hope i find a good one!   thanks for the help mate   appreciated!!

Yup, that "noise" has caused a lot of problems and because of it I have a brand new engine courtesy of VW UK!

There are lots of threads on here about it.

Good luck and don't rush into buying one, the right car is out there just take your time and do your homework

yerh, thanks for your help, what is the sound like? i got told it was a chain rattle (pretty distinctive) and should go off after few seconds?  apart from that you got any more tips?

up to now its looking like hopefully a manual, red or black, good con wheels (18's) the screen unit inside.

Hi

Don't worry about getting confused with the TFSI/TSI Abbreviations

All audi new Audi Turbocharged petrols use the TFSI Logo but some VW/Skoda cars with the same engine use different,They use TSI (Turbo-Stratified Injection) even though they have the same engine code,Even if you look at a VW/Skoda with lets say a 1.4 TSI (Turbo/Supercharger engine) Some people think that the TSI stands for Turbo-Supercharged-Injection but it still stands for Turbo-Stratified Injection.Very confusing but thats how it is.

Example

Skoda VRS/Polo GTI (185ish) Variant
Turbo/Supercharger engine known as a 1.4 TSI (Turbo-Stratified Injection)

Audi A1 1.4 TFSI (185) Variant
Turbo/Supercharger Engine known as a 1.4 TFSI (Turbo Fuel Stratified Injection)

Both the above engines are the same but yet across brand's they have different engine descriptions

A1 1.4 TFSI (122) Variant
Turbo Engine known as a 1.4 TFSI (Turbo Fuel Stratified Injection)

Even though the A1 (122) only has a Turbo and the (185) has a Turbo and a Supercharger they still use the same description,Only different Visually is the Centre console trim and S tronic as Standard :) and of course different head shield in engine bay.

Audi TT 2.0 TFSI 211bhp
Golf GTI 2.0 TSI 211 bhp

Both have different engine descriptions but yet some/most are the same engine code

Likewise with the New Golf R/Audi S3 same engines yet one i known as a TSI and the other a TSFI.

Of course VW do Turbo/Supercharged engine but just don't let the TSI fool you into thinking they are all Supercharged

Don't mean to be geeky just wanted to share some info from Audi College in Milton Keynes

Thanks
