Car Brokers
« on: 18 February 2014, 21:43 »
Just wondering if anybody has ever bought their new car from a broker, in particular Select Automotive.

http://www.select-automotive.com/

Or any other broker.

These guys are offering new GTIs and Rs at 10% off list price.  What's the catch...?

Any info, good or bad, greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Billy

Kingbilly: The catch is that if you have a p/x, you may well be offered bottom book on it, particularly if it isn't a VAG group car of an age which is desirable to their own used car lot (<5 years). You can't expect a huge discount and a great part-ex value most of the time. Sell your car privately perhaps to get the best price, at least go in there knowing what your part-ex is really worth (if you have one). You might have to travel to the other end of the country to pick it up.

Loads of us have - you will get a better deal using 'Drive the Deal' though.... what MH says re trade-in - sell privately!

Going back a bit, but I bought my previous mk5 gti through orangewheels.com in 2008.  Got a sizeable discount, and px was ok but it was another golf gti.  As monkeyhanger says, you may take a bit of a hit on part ex.  Overall it was a great deal, the broker experience was painless and smooth, no hassle whatsoever.  Had to travel to Macclesfield to collect from dealer but was a nice way to give my outgoing car a farewell run and nice introduction the the new car.  Had tried my local dealer first but they had zero interest in selling me the car I wanted, as opposed to what they wanted to shift.

I'll be in the market for a mk7 R in 2015 and if the dealer won't play ball then will definitely look at using an online broker again, most likely drivethedeal.  Broker deals are treated as fleet sales which is partly why discount levels are good.

I've used Carfile and the experience could not have been an easier way of saving 12.8% - Jonathan Lawless was so helpful and genuinely friendly! I couldn't find anyone could get down to their price (which included 12 months tax and a full tank of fuel - which many didn't) and the dealer who they put me in touch with has been fabulous too ......

When dealers are only offering free metallic paint (circa £535) and I've saved over £4,000 (admittedly on a heavily spec'd car, but the same as I would have ordered from my local dealer) - you have to ask why wouldn't you use a broker? They're even delivering it for free ...... :D

10 days to go and the proof of the pudding will be in the eating ........

Don't forget to be meticuous with your inspection when you pick it up. If you've travelled 200 miles to get the car and discover something that the PDI should have picked up, as soon as you get it home, then you might find it difficult to get them to resolve.
