Gap between stereo and fascia panel?
« on: 18 February 2014, 10:57 »
Another amateurish nooblike querey.

Im confused as to why there is a gaping gap between the stereo and the fascia panel as shown in pic.

Is it just a case of the fascia panel being too small? this is the correct model specific panel though according to where i bought it.

The stereo doesnt sit in properly either, can move it up or down freely and tends to slide out when breaking harshly. There is a metal stereo bracket but that doesnt seem to lock onto the centre cage in anyway.

I dont know if its a damaged centre cage, if the stereo bracket is f00ked. All i know is im a clueless nub.

Any help appreciated :)

the metal cage needs to be put in, you bend the tabs on the cage so that it clips onto the radio surround. then you put the head unit in that will clip into the metal cage and stop it falling out.

the pocket above it looks to be the wrong size, that is why you have a gap.

you can buy the pocket from vw for about £13. also there is a plastic V shaped part that goes between the two, not entirely sure what the use of this is, maybe just to provide a small bit of support for the pocket, im not sure, mine got swiftly removed and my double din fitted.

so to cut a long issue short, just get a double din hooked up and solve all problems with one stone? go for that then
