Mk3 golf front strut comparability ?
« on: 17 February 2014, 22:21 »
Are all the front struts the same ?

I have a shock and spring lowering kit on my 1.8 8v and want to go vr6 so obviously that's more weight

Can i just use My current shocks with vr6 specific lowering springs or do the vr struts have a different arb mounting point ?

Thanks !

As far as im aware the struts are the same and its just the spring rates that vary depending on engine fitted.

And you'll find that the lowering springs will be listed as gti/vr6 and a 1.8 weights the same as a 2.0 8v.

Struts all the same (except the spring cup size between early/late).

I will advise to get proper VR spec springs and not just any lowering springs as axle weight is much higher (In other words if they state same for all models they will be wrong!)

I fitted front springs with an axle weight of 1090kg (normal lowering one's are around 990kg)

b.t.w mine is static low's at this height!!
