ABF alt/ps pulley question

The part I need is 037 105 253, so it looks like I am mistaken and it is two seperate parts. Couldn't seperate them for the life of me though. For the price of both I'd rather just make a solid one myself!
Despite the purpose of the damper being to reduce vibrations back to the crank, I'd imagine the belt itself does a pretty good job of that?








Next question, does anyone know the correct size of the 4 bolts that hold the pulley on? I took out 2-off M8x40 and 2-off M8x45. I guess it's probably the 45mm bolts as the length of engagement only appears to be 5-6 turns looking at the 40mm bolts.

N 90308605 is the bolts and they are listed as M8x14 (not length given) and are about 60p each from vw/seat/audi/skoda (they are a common bolt)
and as stated before just for the v belt pulley it's £40!

the bolts are probably wrong as the threads have stripped and longer bolts used to get down to the remaining thread.
If your going for  a home pulley then machine it to fit at least H7 on the crank so run out is minimised.
Dont use ali use a bit of wear resistant steel.
You might get more skid without the damping as you rev up and decelerate hit bumps etc.

The 40mm bolts engage and tighten just as well in any of the holes, I tried them all. I think it's more like someone changed the bolts but only had 2x 45mm bolts laying around 
I have plenty of 817M40 alloy steel at work...but then again I have 3 metres of 6082 too 
Should be alright if I have it hard anodised.
I know which I'd rather have up on the lathe!

I'll draw a few designs up and see if I can make a steel one light without compromising strength.
It's a lot of work really but I can do it for free - I don't fancy/can't afford £xxx on buying new pulleys.

It's just the belt is pretty abrasive exerts a lot of force and will get covered in salt and sh!t and no damping.
Understand why you want ali though, would be done in half the time but you dont want it to fracture or go precipitous.
By all means if you have something exotic in the non ferrous, will look the nuts at least.
Make sure whatever bolts you use dont hang out the back.

Looking at it, it's only the alternator pulley part that's floating on the rubber damper. The p/s pulley seats straight into the steel carrier.

Might be worth looking at mk4/5 to see if they fit, second hand ones will have done lunar mileage on a mk3.
