Random hazard lights going off

I was sat in my boring E46 family wagon which had just that second let me down by not starting, looked up at the golf and the hazard lights went off briefly.......... WTF ?!?!?!?!? 

It was as if it was reminding me it was there and fancied a bit of company!    Swore at the bimmer, locked it and walked over to carry on with my day in the golf.

Got the bimmer sorted a few days later (flooded and a case of bore wash) 

Now thinking what that little moment was with the golf.  Anyone know or heard of this problem?  It does have a dodgy n/s door module, and occasionally the interior lights flip out making the door open dash warning come on.  Could these be related?

I noticed my hazards going off a while ago late at night. almost as if the alarm was going off but silenced

Ditto that.  Not a sound.  It did make me chuckle as it was the exact moment the bimmer failed to start up.

I just bought a genuine lock unit, all I need is the motivation to fit it now!  If it aint that then I'll resurrect the post and start some more serious fault finding.
