Dash lighting
« on: 10 February 2014, 10:42 »
Is there a way to keep the dash lit up when the headlights aren't on.

Finally started driving in daylight and would like it on all the time, but word rather not have to manually turn on the headlights.

I tend to leave my side lights on.
It dims the DRL's but lights up the dash and puts my rear lights on keeping me visible from the rear.
I guess this is the only way??

I think the system automates when to illuminate the dials depending on how light it is outside?   I'm pretty sure that even just the DRLs on sometimes the dash is lit up on mine?

Unless I'm imagining it...

^^

No you're not imagining it.  This is the case in the mk6, so expect it's the same in mk7.

Aren't the DRLs on at all times - even when the auto headlights are turned off?

If so, the dash isn't on at the same time as those. Yesterday while driving during the day, it was light enough to turn the auto lights off, but still pretty dim. Would have liked to have the dash lit up - mostly because it looks so much cooler.

Is this something the magicians with VCDS could do?

If its a VAG thing which I'm sure it will be, there is a light sensor on the dials.

If you shine a light on it the dials will light up. (if you have the lights on auto)

Will have a look in VCDS on mine if it can be coded (would also want that).
One thing that can be coded is that headlights are always on in auto position (which is not a bad thing even thou not comp. in uk)
