How could something so simple be missed off?

This maybe totally irrelevant but....

My Toyota has bluetooth phone prep and when stationary I can go through the phone book and call a number. However when moving above 12mph (iirc) the phone book function is disabled and the only numbers you can call is last dialled numbers and speed dial numbers.

Could this be the same with the VW system? I can't check yet as I'm still waiting for delivery

Kevin's right, I meant premium Bluetooth - oops 

It's a minimum requirement for VW's car net system, which gives you access to googlemaps, live traffic data, weather etc. as well as creating a wifi hot spot in the car. Additionally it has an extra sim slot in the glovebox in between the 2 SD card slots.

Like I say, VW UK don't bring this system (yet) to the Uk so we don't have it.
