How could something so simple be missed off?

Hi,

As you probably know I think the Mk7 GTI is totally fantastic, but there is one feature that I cannot understand being missed off the car.  On the MK7 you cannot dial a phone number that is in your phone book, using the steering wheel controls and MFD screen on the instrument cluster.  This was possible in the Mk6 and worked really well, but in the MK7 all you can do is dial missed or previously dialed numbers, not ones from your phone book. The only way  to dial from your phone book is via the head unit screen, which involves a lot of taking your eyes off the road.

I wonder if VW will release a software update to restore this functionality on the instrument cluster MFD?  It seems a real step backwards at present, from the Mk6.

Really? That does seem stupid. It works really well in my mk6 also.

Yep, thats what surprised me, as it worked so well in the Mk6

It possibly wont do any good but try writing to VW and state you are very disappointed and are considering going to the papers about it as its obviously not safe .
Just an idea .

It seems to take for ever having to scroll through the whole list of contacts in the 6 if you want one that's towards the bottom, perhaps it's quicker to use the touch screen?

I seem to remember in my Mk6 GTD that I could use the up and down buttons to scroll from either the start or the end of the alphabet. A long push of the button would skip to the next letter in the alphabet - in other words straight from B to C without scrolling through all the B entries.

Yes that is the case in the mk6.  Can scroll from either end of alphabet and holding down the up or down arrow jumps it to next letter.

Bit of a backward step if you can't do this in the mk7.

It is a major backward step, particularly as an incoming call displays in the MFD, and can be ended there too.
