Golf mk7 Alpine Navigation
« on: 05 February 2014, 20:01 »
My brother has a salvage parts business and has managed to get hold of the new Alpine 3D navigation unit that comes in the mk7. It has the unit number: 5G0 909 615 D, also comes with a grey surround that goes around the heater panel. I don't have pictures of it working but can confirm it works. Whats it worth? Does anyone want one? (This is not a for sale thread but wanting to see if I should get it off him for anyone here)

That doesn't look like the software I've see. On any golf so far?

Annoyingly retro fitting sat nav means putting a hole in the roof for the antenna (AFAIK) so close to useless unless you already have nav...

Not at all. I retro-fitted the RNS 510 to my MK6 (very common mod) and I just tucked the GPS aerial in behind the head unit, in behind the vents. There's no need for the aerial to be external, so long as it isn't blocked by metal.

Interesting, so is just the head unit and antenna?

I don't know about this unit in the MK7, but for the RNS units in the MK5/6, you simply had to get a GPS antenna and tuck it neatly in behind the headunit as you're installing it. Worked absolutely fine.

Are you sure? I've never heard of any genuine "Alpine unit" for the MK7. There's only 2 factory NAV options that I'm aware of in the MK7 - the DNS and the DNS Pro (larger screen).

The genuine sat nav unit is in 2 parts: the screen and the disc drive in the glove box.

Why would you post a picture of a different item?
