Upgraded Brake Discs and Pads
« on: 04 February 2014, 22:36 »
Whats the best way to upgrade the discs and pads on my MK4 GTI T? Is it just to go down the drilled and grooved route or upgrade from a R32 or S3? If so, what sort of costs for the either?

what size brakes do you currently have? (PR number or model details will help)

dependant on which size discs you have now 312mm conversion is quite easy (subject to wheel size), std size drilled or grooved discs are also an option with some uprated pads (or even 312 drilled).
I sell Delphi - Brembo - EBC - Zimmermann - ATE and others (and go right up to a full 6pot 345mm conversion kit by AP/Brembo etc)

312mm setup is a good upgrade, you just need the carriers, discs and pads - you can use your existing calipers.

I wouldn't bother with drilled or grooved, you won't see any benefit on a MK4.

Thanks for the info guys.

Not sure what size i have now but it is just a standard mk4vgti t.

And boneybradley, you say that you sell them. Have you got any prices for standard and 312mm size or have you got a site i can look at?

The Cheapest upgrade is the 312mm upgrade.

As Dom said you will need the carriers, as you can use your exsisting calipers. or if you have OCD like me lol then you will change the calipers too, now I only did this because I wanted to ensure that I refurbed them and there was now corriosion and the paint coverage was correct :)

And as I was wanted to do a brake fluid flush as I dont know if the car had ever had it.
Dom did miss that if you are upgrading to 312mm you will also need the splash guards OR you can cut your exsisting ones but again because I have OCD i got the upgraded ones from germany  :nerd:

This was my end result before they were fitted.

Before upgrade (Please note the wheels in this pic are 17" running the 288mm discs and old carrier/caliper setup)

And this is after the upgrade, only been on the car a week so not fully tested the brakes yet and the discs/pads are still wearing in. (Please note these wheels are 18")

Aye, forgot about the splash guards. They're cheap enough to sort though :afro:

Got to say Nino, your car is turning into something I really like. You got a full build thread anywhere?
