The 'Post a picture of your mk6 Golf' thread in the mk6 section has got pictures of Carbon Grey (or Carbon Steel Grey) and Steel Grey Golfs. Check out replies #3, 13, 15 (Carbon Grey) and #9 (Steel Grey).

As said, in the mk6 days there was Carbon Grey (darker) and Steel Grey (lighter).  For mk7 it now seems to be just the one known on the vw configurator as Carbon Grey Metallic, which is the darker one formerly known as Carbon Grey.  Seems to also get referred to as Carbon Steel Grey (CSG). Confusing eh!

Pic below (though American) demonstrates the two different colours.  Top pics - Carbon Grey, bottom pics - Steel Grey.

Looking forward to picking up my CSG Mk7 GTD next weekend - will hopefully get it home for a proper wash and wax soon afterwards. Hoping the paintwork is in good enough nick that it won't need a detail quite yet.
