VW Golf GTD - Carbon Grey
« on: 03 February 2014, 10:11 »
VW Golf MK7 GTD 2.0
Carbon Grey

Date Ordered - 27/08/13
BW - 51
Collected - 24/01/13

Dealership - Ingrams, Ayr

The car was ordered via www.carwow.com, Ingrams got in touch and we negotiated a deal. The whole experience with Ingrams was excellent. The salesman picked me up from the station took me back to the dealership, sorted out the paperwork, showed me round the car and I was off!

Keyless
Works well, key never has to leave my pocket anymore. Jump in and hit the start button.

Discovery Nav Pro
The nav pro really finishes off the interior of the golf, it’s an expensive option for what it is but I do use the satnav quite a bit.

Winter Pack
Heated seats are a must. Nothing better on a cold morning!

Reverse Camera
This option wasn’t available when I ordered my car, it later became available and I added it on. At £165 it seemed reasonable.

Park Assist
Purely spec’d to see how well it actually works and I can confirm it works brilliantly!

Overall the car is great, MPG is slightly disappointing but hopefully things will improve. Inside the car looks great and the interior lighting is top notch. ACC works great, along with the electronic handbrake and hold assist.

Upgrades
- Replaced the vanity, glove box and boot lights for LED’s
- Replace the static cornering lights for Orsam Night Breaker Unlimited H7’s (Still to be done)
- Replace the reverse lights for LED’s (Still to be done)

VCDS Mods (Still to be done)
- Enable DRL’s & fog lights to be used as coming home / leaving home lights
- Automatic activation of CH lights
- Automatic rain closing
- Chirp on locking
- Change the DRL’s to run at full brightness
- Enable taillights to be on when DRL’s are on
- Inside rear red LEDs remain on when CH active and locking vehicle
- Puddle lights illuminate irrespectively of mirror position

Very nice Stuart.

Similar spec to mine (albeit I added Dynamic chassis control and auto main beam assist). The CSG looks really good, but then to be honest, I haven't seen a bad colour on the MK7 yet.

Just cleaned mine this weekend (first time in 3 weeks) and she looks stunning as well (Pure white). I also recently saw a Midnight blue one in the flesh over the weekend and have to say it looked fantastic too.

Don't worry too much about the MPG - it will improve, just be realistic with your expectations. Mid sixties is never really going to be acheivable (maybe going downhill with a following wind), but mine over 3,600 miles is averaging 46mpg - and most of that is my standard city commuting. I can regularly get mid fifties on my commute home from work, and so it makes it slightly more economical that my older Scirocco 140 TDI, which used to average 45mpg with "only" 140ps !

I was going to go for the Midnight Blue but in the end settled for Carbon Grey!

Hopefully things improve, I was expecting mid to high 40's definitely. So far I have a 36.5mpg and 36.9mpg.

Lovely looking car, love the CG. Id be interested in how you go about changing the DRL’s to run at full brightness as well as how to enable the taillights to be on when DRL’s are. How easy is this to do?

Lovely looking car the more I see it in cg the more I think the next golf is going to be that colour. I have to try and get hold of VCDS so I can make some of those mods.

Just looking at the new review on here today (Czech one) and think the GTD looks great in white, but these photos still convince me that CG was my right choice.

I would just add though it will probably need washing regular as it does show the dust, especially on the rear tailgate.

Lovely car Stuart! Really looking forward to getting mine now. I still don't know how anyone can stomach £1700 for the satnav. Daylight robbery in my opinion! The basic nav should be free (as it is on the GT) and maybe a £500 upgrade to the pro nav?

Agree they should include basic nav on the GTi/D given the GT gets it but then they would just bump the price up by £750 to cover it. Another £1000 for the pro system does seem excessive, tempting for sure for the bigger screen but I'm delighted with the Discovery system I have as I don't use it a lot.

Guess not including it as standard keeps the cost of the cars down a little and lets people choose if they want nav or not. Plenty of people are happy not to go for it.

Weird though isn't it.

They put on Xenon headlights that cost over a £1000 more than a standard setup, something many people would not think about adding, but then forget about a Satnav system.

I suppose they have their marketing reasons.
Ordered 06/01/14.  5DR GTD DSG, Red. Park Assist | Rear Camera | Keyless entry | Dynaudio | Winter Pack | Pro Nav.
