Yeah i'll just get everything whipped off the 16v, cleaned and prepped up and see how it goes. It's just nice to have all the knowledge up front of what I'm about to undertake as it's inevitable that they'll be hitches along the way - there always friggin is!

I wouldn't considering the rear beams are different and I'm not taking it off anyway. The rear bushes on the wagon are staying for the time been seeing as they've literally just passed an MOT and I've got enough to do without adding to the list.

My car had an mot last week i think the mot tester went a bit mental my advisories were.
Both front brake flexi hoses slight cracking
Both rear bushes deteriorated but not showing excessive play
both rear brake pipes slightly corroded
o/s passenger rear floor slightly corroded (was told under sill is coming off but no rust ? )
Both front top mount bushes slight play
N/S/R wheel bearing slight play (its a new bearing just needs to be tightened up a little)
Jacking point slight damage
Both front outer sills damaged (twits of previous owner jacking it on the seals)
My previous mot had 1 advisory track rod end the previous owner had the car then my car has done 6000miles since last mot my mileage is 116k people are saying bin my 16v but I know its little jobs to fix my car i will keep it

tie rod ends don't change bet_een racks but the tie rods do, tr_ is smooth and black and zf is silver alum and is not smooth (inprinted into the rack)... it's more common for the VR to have the zf and other less models to have tr_

Ok cheers il bear that in mind when I start pulling it all apart.
Another thing that has been brought to my attention is the rear anti roll bar. Im yet to familiarise myself with the estate rear beam but I struggling to find any real info on it online at the moment.
Obviously il be changing the front one but im not too sure what to do with rear and there doesn't seem to be many aftermarket choices even.
Would the GTI ARB transfer over...even if modified? How about the mk2 Golf or Passat parts bin?

Having now removed all the required components from the front end of the 16v something that has got me thinking is how to go about transferring the ARB correctly onto the TDI without damaging anything as obviously the sub frame was dropped on the 16v but this was without anything left in the engine bay?
Im guessing ideal I should have an engine support beam attached whilst dropping it but I cant really afford £80 on one of those at the moment, any suggestions appreciated.

A good bit of 4*2 and some ratchet straps, notch the ends to clear the wing lips.
Got me out of trouble a few times, may need to unbolt some crap on the top of the engine to clear

If I was you I'd drop the entire subframe down and swap it.
Up to you whether to swap PAS racks but it will be the simplest/quickest way if slightly more awkward.
You will need the outer CV joints from the 16v which will slot straight onto the Wagon driveshafts.
I've done this conversion myself.
Regulator will be fine if adjusted properly which can take some fiddling.
