Induction Kits - Any Good?????
« on: 29 August 2005, 19:17 »
Now that I have (nearly) got my 1991 8v running right, been thinking about getting an induction kit. Already have a full Scorpion system, so I guess that with an induction kit I would be getting some extra horses under the bonnet........

I have noticed that the airflow meter hole is square, so "universal" induction kits seem out of the question. What is the best kit to go for - or is it better to stick with the original airbox set up? :undecided:

most dont bother with them they remove the funnel in the front of the air box and put a good air filter in gives same result but doesnt look as nice, tbh digifants dont really like induction kits they shudder and choke if not set up right.

they look good and sound great :D i had one for about a month and the car sounded great but kept idling funny and stalling soon as i put the old box back it was fine again id say you need to adjust the idle and timing etc and it should be fine i just put it on and expected miracles i guess :S

i'm with dean on this one. induction kits on digi's don't add anything. just remove the trumpet thing from the inside of the air box, get a decent panel filter (k&n) and drill the f**k out of the wing side of the airbox. sounds better, works better, and is cheaper, reeeeeeeeeesult!

Thanks Joe - Someone I know suggested the airbox thing..........Do you basically just cut out the "funnel" bit and leave yourself a rather large hole, therefore getting more air in? Would you also suggest a direct feed pipe from the grille to the box? Hopefully I won't manage to f**k it up.........................

yeah if you open the air box up it all pulls out, no cutting needed. but if you want to get extra air in drill some holes in the wing side. it won't be an incredible difference with the holes but can't hurt.

Shiney shiney K&N! Although there was no noticable power increase i love sound and the look and have had no problems at all with running it on my 8v.  Then again i also fail to spot this 'digilag' that people go on about, mine just seems to work.... hmmmm...  and one final thing - i remember reading about someone who found the K&N oil all gunked up in the inlet pipe and throttle body - could that be the result of someone cleaning and reoiling it but using too much oil? I know they are quite specific about not over doing it.
