I ordered white and then changed to carbon grey!

Finance - if you use VWFS its around 6% APR - they have an on-line finance tool that allows you to tailor your requirements and create your own quotes so I will be going with them again.

The on-line calculator only works out figures on the full retail price of the car.

If you have to go down the finance route, I wouldn't get too hung up on interest rates as a good discount off the list price could outweigh a percent or two of interest. Equally it can also work the other way round. You need to add up every element, px value, cash deposit, all the monthlies added up and final payment to get the total amount that will leave your pocket, then compare it against other deals doing the same thing.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Might be stating the obvious here but,

If you want to work out the finance on a discounted price, then simply pop in the amount of discount in the deposit section (on top of your own deposit).  I did this and the quote form the dealer on order day was within pennies of the online calculator.

What is a bigger issue with the online calculator is the length of time it takes to get the car.  The quote you get on order day is only valid for a certain period (30 or 90 days?), which will pretty much be way less than the actual delivery time.  Very strange way to run a business though, enticing customers in with attractive finance offers, only for them not to be valid at the point the car is delivered !

Ordered 06/01/14.  5DR GTD DSG, Red. Park Assist | Rear Camera | Keyless entry | Dynaudio | Winter Pack | Pro Nav.

You can do that, but you won't know how much discount you can get until you are sat across the desk from the salesman. The best deal you will get will be there and then after you have nailed him to the table. If you go away to think about it, it's much easier for him to say no over the phone when you try to chip him a bit more.

Not always true.

In my circumstance I knew I was getting 12% from the local dealer.  But, ofcourse everyone will and can have a different way of doing business ;)

As said above - you just add the discount you got (£4k in my case) to the deposit. You can get to the calculator either after going through the co9nfigurator (which adds options) or straigt to it here https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/businessFinanceCalculator/generateDefaultCalculation?modelId=1262

This will only give list prices without options but again you simply adjust the deposit sum to reflect what you have agreed to pay for the car.

I think so long as you have a finance quote saved by the dealer they will stand over it. I was discussing end of Dec and then ordered car early Jan by which time the rate went up. They had saved a 3 yr quote but not 4 which I wanted to go for at the lower rate, they called VW Finance and got the green light to go for it. Also have done the same with an Audi which will be a few months from order to delivery.
