Anyone else think they're haevy on front tyres?
« on: 27 January 2014, 14:37 »
Seem to have ruined a half worn set of tyres in about 2300 miles.

Only cheap sh!tters and I cain the life out of the thing to be fair, but they've worn more than any car I've owned before, Clio was advised on an MOT and 10k miles later it's just about a slick now, lasted far longer and they're all cheapies.

Gonna be sticking some alloys with decent rubber on it, but wondering how you guys find front tyre wear?

Where all my moneys went.

I managed 15k out of my Falkens before they were ready for the bin, don't think that's too bad tbh

Must be sh!tty tyres then I guess. I do drive hard just the MK3, Clio and every other sh!tter has lasted longer.

I have however just bought some tyres that are really good grip wise (even a friend gets them on his 911) however there cheaply priced (almost half the price I paid for my last tyres!). so may only last a few thousand miles. we will have to see (the lad who has them on his 911 hardly does any miles in that car so normally replaces the tyres because the rubber starts to degrade rather than wear)

I got some Michelin PS3 205/55/16 in my fronts, you can't really get much better than these (read alot of reviews and research first).  They're a soft compound so don't last long but they grip so well it's actually quite hard to wheelspin, they're supposed to make the car drink more with the extra drag (I haven't noticed), but in the rain is possibly the best feature - the difference over my old P6000's is so big I can't explain it.

At £73 each I'm not complaining - handling, braking, swerving in the rain etc are improved 10-fold.  Next will be P7 Cinturato's, because they're not as high a performer as PS3 but they're in the same league, last longer and have less drag.  Conti sport contact 5's are next in my list.

My point here is it's really not worth getting cheapo tyres.  It's a false economy.  I used to wheelspin quite alot in my turbo, nowadays it's rare.  Get some premium ones (on the front at least), the difference in performance is huge and the difference in lifespan/price is not.

h.

When mine get a bit worn on the front i take them off and switch them with the rear tyres.
