Like a couple of others on here, I'm waiting till March 1st. My car arrived at dealers week before xmas. I'm buying outright with cash so any saving is important to me. Since I had surgery on my spine I couldn't drive for most of the waiting period anyway, now I can but the wait is only 5 more week so might as well go all the way. Can't wait for that saturday my dealer has already booked me in and is insisting that the amount of kit on this car will take 2 hours to go through properly. It is also booked in for 6 hours with the two head valeters the week before.

Pretty excited about this.

If you're anal about paintwork, I wouldn't let the valeters 'wash' your car. It may spoil the collection excitement looking at what other people consider to be 'perfect'. It did for me :(

My GTI is also sat at the dealer as of Friday and I've decided to wait until 1st March for a couple of reasons:

1. New Reg - my 1st new car and I always envy people who collect their new cars on 1st day of new registration
2. I'm hoping the worst of the weather will be out the way, although it did snow in March/April last year!
3. It's my birthday on 28th Feb and my wife has planned a nice weekend away for us, all starting with picking up the car on Sat 1st March and going away in it.

The value isn't as important to me, but I do think it will make a difference.

I don't want to rain on what should be a really great day for you, but I hope your dealer hasn't got many cars going out on March 1st.
Think about the logistics of it. If they have a lot of cars going out on march 1st
1: The valet might have been done a few days prior to pick up so it might not be as clean as you thought or hoped.
2: The pressure to get a lot of cars ready might lead to a few corners being cut.
3: The salesman will be under pressure to get as many hand overs done so denying you the standard of service you deserve in the rush to get to the next customer.

A friend of mine works in the trade and he said to me once. Never pick up a new car on new reg day for the reasons mentioned above.

As I said I don't want to put you off but wanted to offer a different perspective of a March 1st pick up.

As a self respecting man, why would you want the dealer to show you any kit? It's our prerogative in life to aimlessly mash all of the buttons in a vain attempt to understand the logistics of each toy, before shamelessly looking at the instruction manual in desperation after losing face in front of the better half.

I'm collecting mine on March 1st, but will have done everything in advance so should be turn up, collect key, drive away.

Make sure you don't stall it on the way out

Yes I do understand all that, and what you say is very true. I've already booked the earliest appointment with the sales guy for 1st March and he said that its no problem so I'm trusting them to make the experiene a good one. If not, they will know about it!

That said, I'll have a lot of time to play with the car over the weekend and I'm not too fussed about a big handover procedure as the sales guy showed me a lot of the functions on the test drive.

Fingers crossed!

I'm not anal about it but I know when it's not done right. Orginally I did not want my car washed because I was going to take it straight to my detailer up in town but to compensate for a blunder the dealer wants to apply autoglym on the house as he is desperate to make amends and is insisting it will be perfect. Having said that, I won't be deeply upset if it isn't perfect, only if it's really bad.

Interesting and valid comments from other posters on here regarding pros/cons of 1st March collection. I don't think I could bear to even wait an extra day though so will take the plunge.

DO NOT let them apply LifeShine! Utterly horrible stuff that will not get applied correctly internally or externally.

Your detailer will spend some time getting rid of it all before making a start anyway. The scratches left by the Valeter on mine were incredible. Swirl marks all over the place suggesting he'd used a Brillo pad and fairy liquid to do the wash.

If they want to make amends for something, I heartily recommend the following accessories as a much better option:

Sill protection (the tough black 'stickers')
Rubber Golf branded floor mats front and rear
VW valve caps

The more expensive of the two boot liners is a waste of time, however.

Why is the more expensive boot liner a waste of time? I am thinking of buying one.

My free lifeshine went on fine - it isn't universally applied by monkeys, depends on the dealership. Valvecaps are a waste of time - they'll be pinched straight away. I do recommend the rubber mats though - my preference over the carpet ones that'll look sh!te in no time. Lifeshine costs next to nowt - it is all in the labour costs. If you want something other than "£300" lifeshine, you'd be lucky to get £50 accessories from them, because £50 accessories will cost the dealership more than the lifeshine.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....
