As above, I have someone coming to look at my car thats for sale and I have owned for many years. He has just pulled out as he said his text check comes back as car stolen!!!!

I couldn't believe my ears as it was "apparently" stolen during my ownership (which it was not). So I have done a proper HPI check costing £20 and have a report to prove It was not stolen and is totally clean, I've sent my report to him and he is adamant that his text check is correct....

With that in mind I contacted my insurance and they have zero trace of said stolen...... what a load of rubbish, lost the sale of my car as some database has false information.

Has anybody else ever had this??

Cheers all.

Yeah. Sounds like he's got cold feet and trying to give you a reason for pulling out. He may or may not have done a text check, but he's probably made up the result to fit his decision to pull out.

That said, some databases seem to be wrong because I keep getting calls asking about some crash I had in the last 3 years, when the last accident I had was 11 years ago.

He sent me a screen shot of his text check which had the correct reg but clearly the wrong information.

I think he has got cold feet as you say and looking for a way out, funny you say that as i mentioned putting a £50 deposit to hold the car but he wasn't up it. Oh well his loss. Cheers anyway tho, lesson learnt here is not to trust HPI text checks. When I said I have the v5 and the past 23 years of tax disc and MOT's to back everything up and never pulled over for a stolen car he came up with these weak reasons to stick to his text check.
Rubbish

Its possible that at some point your car may have been cloned without you knowing! Id get in contact with the Police, just to check whether there have been any markers on your car, or registration number!

Also, contact the text check company and tell them, you shouldn't stand for a company declaring false and damaging information.

And most people worth their salt would trust a full HPI check over anything else.
