boot lock help please
« on: 22 January 2014, 17:26 »
Intermittently over the time ive owned my golf ive had trouble with my boot, I would unlock the car try to open wouldnt work lock then unlock hey presto its open.

Now it doesnt work at all lol, ive got the boot open and strip it to take a look and it seems the solenoids moving but when it comes to unlocking it can only pull it half way so not enough to allow the handle to clear the locking bar. Ive tried some wd40 on it and it hasnt solved it!

1 does the solenoid need replace and 2 how the fook do you get it off the car as I cant make sense of it !!

Have you checked the wiring in the rubber door bellow from the main body to the boot? Mine stopped working and the wire was half broken in the right hand door bellow.

Had the same problem on mine, fortunately WD40 and little
persuasion back and fourth with finger tips sorted it for me.

It did take a few days until it opened first fob click but been fine since

Assuming you've already got the plastic trim off, there's a b@stard of a metal clip which stops the lock barrel from being pushed through.

Take the clip off and remove the barrel by pushing it through the tailgate. The handle and all associated crap is then held on with 3 or 4 little torx screws.

I wasnt planning on taking the handle out just the white solenoid thing

It fixed itself and made me look like a twit all at the same time !

My mate popped over to borrow my heatgun, I was in the boot trying to sort it, it wasnt work at the point when he turned up. He obviously asked what are you doing in the boot, not quite like that you can imagine a serious wtf moment..... so I demonstrated what the problem was about 35 times ..... it didnt do it !!!!!

So just to make sure it wont happen again for a while I smothered it in wd40 whilst seperating anything that moves, it was a touch corroded but I think the solenoid itself is on its way out as it sound extremely weak.
