Wing mirror crack
« on: 22 January 2014, 14:28 »
Hi all
Some tosser knocked my wing mirror today while I was in town

Damage isn't too bad, small crack in the clear glass indicator section. Does anyone know who these things come apart? Seems to be a small panel underneath perhaps screws behind that?  Reckon I could do a repair job if I can get it apart without breaking it!

Thanks

The indicator light is available separately. They are around £25 from the dealers.

To fit them you need to pretty well dismantle the mirror. It's not all that daunting tho'. This link shows how to do the job on a Mk5 Golf. Having changed them on both my old Passat (which has the same mirrors) and my Mk6 Golf, they are pretty similar.

With the right tools it's easy enough. A set of plastic trim removal tools are invaluable in any tool kit. They needed be expensive either. I think I paid less that a tenner for mine off ebay.

Lol. Yep I've got 'em all and was careful, but crack it went.
Right bastard, 2 days after picking up the new car. I was attempting to fit LED's. I just left it well alone and fitted the new glass as I couldn't be bothered replacing the passenger side as well.

Just tried both mine with my trim removal tool. No problems at all. And that was only a practice for fitting the led's tonight.  oh and I used the instructions that are shown in elsawin.
Now - MK7.5 R in Pure White with DCC.
Gone - 2014 Mk7 GTI DSG Pure White - Discover Nav - Park Assist - Winter Pack.
