Aum 1.8t gti problem
« on: 15 January 2014, 19:40 »
hello,  my aum 1.8t has thrown the 17704 code, error in mapped cooling system, I've noticed that the temperature gauge would get up to 90 when I'm in. slow traffic and sometimes stay at 90 but other times as soon as I drive it would.drop to.cold, I've replaced both  thermostat  and temp sensor but still this problem continues, has anyone had this problem before? thanks :)

Strange if you have replaced both. Did you clear the codes afterwards?

Might be worthwile checking the temps on vagcom (if you have it) and refit the thermostat, even take it back and get a replacement.

Did you use genuine parts or cheap ones?

Did you refit the o-ring the correct way when you changed the thermostat?

I think so, what's the right and wrong way? I just took the car for a drive and it stays on the first 3 close lines on the gauge for however long I drive it but the second stop it climbs to 90? vag com also says the temperature. of the coolant is70 degrees and the gauge says 90 so it must be running very cold when I drive it? I'm stuck with what to do next?

You might have a air lock.

the o ring goes on the outside of the thermostat. It'd probably leak if you did it the wrong way.

Could be a long shot, but is there not 2 different coolant sensors on the AUM?
