« on: 13 January 2014, 02:26 »
I have been given this oil for free.

http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Volkswagen_Golf_1.8_2000/p/car-parts/car-service-parts/regular-service/engine-oil/?521776061&1&a7fa8aab398764d1519efc3621934896ee19afa0&000398

Safe to use on 1.8 gti t?

Only ask as my old oil was synplus 5w-30 504-507

This is synplus c3 5w-30 vw 502 505 and 505.1?

I'm sure that oil is normally £15 on sale.
Just go to your local VW/TPS, and get some Quantum Platinum 5/30, and an OE filter

I saw: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=262499.0

but then there was conflicting information as per the servicing page: 1.8T:

For the 1.8T vw recommend fully synthetic 5W -30 oil. This should confirm to Vw 504 00 or 507 00. Castrol longlife III is the approved oil.

The 1.8T will take 4.35 litres of engine oil.

I know it states people have been using 5w-40 and then read another post about people using the wrong oil and completely f**king up their engines and that it doesnt just matter what 5w-40/30 you use. It also matters to the 502.505 etc

Lets not forget - I got this oil for free so was asking if it was ok to use

edit - see http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18568415

VW recommended either 5w40 or 10w40 last time I went down there. 5w40 is too thin at normal operating temperature IMO

I will confirm with my mate what exacat oils are recommended when I see him next

Vw recommend Synta platinum 5-40w fully synth for vehicles not on longlife servicing and Synta longlife 5-30w fully synth for vehicles on longlife service schedule.

I used 10-40 in my gti for few years when i had it and was perfectly fine. I always thought 5-30 would been to thin for the 1.8t. And at that time it is what vw recomended too
