hi all

i am thinking of trading in my 2009 gti for a brand new audi A3.

Question is, how much should I be asking for the car?  I'd think I'd get less if i traded it in at the local dealer rather than sell the car on my own but trading it in means I won't have to worry whether it'll sell or not.

Car was bought brand new in late 2009, it's got 70k miles on it and it's a 5-door dsg, pristine condition all round.  Not sure whether extras account for anything at this stage but if they do, then bi-xenons, DCC, sunroof, dynaudio and 18" monzas.

thanks
Wife's: mk8 TSI 1.4 RL, 5dr atlantic blue, DSG, Norfolk 17", pan s/r, leds
Now: mk7.5 TSI 1.4 RL, 5dr tornado red, DSG, Singapore 17", pan s/r, leds
Before: mk6 GTI 5dr candy white, DSG, Monza Shadow 18", s/r, bi-Xenons, DCC
Even before that: mk5 GT 5dr tornado red, manual, s/r

As a trade in I would guess at £10K approx. I see you location is Cyprus so there could be some market variation there. I see at 70K miles that is over average for the year, so that would hurt the residual a bit.

That would be my ballpark figure to work on anyway.

Gone but certainly not forgotten Candy White Scirocco 2.0 TSI

I would say they would offer 9k part ex.

The value has really dropped on the mk6 recently.

I got £14k for ours in September last year, it was a 2010 car with 16k miles, 2 owners, leather and 18" Monza's. I was pleased although it did take some negotiation to get this offer and then still got a decent amount off our new car too, brand new BMW 1 series.

Good luck

That sounds about right for a px. I was offered £10k for a 10 plate 3 door, bog standard GTI with 54,000 miles on it the other day. That was straight dealer buying it off me deal, not part exchange.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Similar spec and age to mine.
I've no DSG but do have Leather, with 38K and was offered 11.5K as trade in on Friday. I still thought that was a bit low, but looks like it might have been pretty good

Cheers

I might be wrong here but i think the mileage may stop you getting a better price for the car.  I am sure I remember being told by a dealer once that cars with a mileage of above 65,000 would not normally retailed on their forcourt and such would just be traded thus reducing the price that can be offered.

Above 65,000 if it doesn't go on the forecourt it will probably go straight to auction like a lot of fleet cars do.
