Front brake disc help
« on: 12 January 2014, 15:43 »
Hi guys
Time has come for me to change front pads. Are pagid the best budget option still?
Also when compressing piston should I remove the cap from fluid reservior to allow expansion then remove a little fluid.?

One last question, having never jacked up my mk6 yet are there arrows to tell you where to put jack or points on the body?

Appreciate all the help

I've never changed break pads, so I can't help on that front. but what I do know is that Euro Car Parts are having a sale during January, so it might be worth checking out the price of the Bosch pads before making any purchases

Hi,

I did my fronts a few months back, personally i never removed the cap from anywhere to allow expansion I just changed them then reset the piston. The brake reservoir tbf was bordering on minimum before I started so it just seemed to top up a little but within the min/max range.

Pads I got mine from andrew page standard Bosch about £25.

Jacking have a peek under car and you can see where the jack bit will connect too, there is like a gap in the jack where the underside drops into, it's quite obvious when you see it.

Once there done though just remember to give the brake pedal a few good pumps to get the pistons biting again before you take it out!

Then when you have it out do a few hard stops from 30 to get the pads grinded into the disc ...

Beware the standard jack!!! Make sure you put something else underneath to support the car on. Best place is the alloy subframe just behingd the engine. 1 gentle puff of wind can blow the car off the standard wobbly jack.

Thanks for the advice
I also found this link which highlights the need for grease on back of pads...

Think you also put a small amount on the caliper bolts?

Should be able to figure out jacking points but if anyone has a good pic it would be great

Not been on for a week or two and was going to post pretty much exactly this! Top advice and especially the pumping the brake pedal as its not fun trying to brake when you forget about it lol
