Where's the NEC on Discovery Pro
« on: 11 January 2014, 19:15 »
I'm going up to the Autosport International Racing Car Show tomorrow so thought I would program the Discovery Pro for a route.  If you want any cafés, shopping centres, and any other POI no problem, but the NEC, no chance.  Found it at last by finding a Costa Coffee at the venue.  What a farce.

Maybe it's not on there because everyone already knows how to get to the NEC?
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Don't know if the VW system will struggle with this but my TomTom regularly fails to accurately locate places with multiple entrances and no fixed street access address such as hospitals, sports stadia, conference centres, o2, earls court etc. In central London having a GPS following a postcode wrongly by even a hundred metres you end up going the wrong direction up a one-way with the rozzers pulling you over!

I had a look at my Nav Pro the other day and could not find where to enter Postcodes for routes anywhere in the UI.  I looked at the manual and it shows a Postcode button in a pic near the front but on further investigation I discovered there is no way of inputting Postcodes when dialling in a route.  I have these three options, Address, POI & Map (Longitude and Latitude).

Hope someone can tell me I am wrong and it does indeed have postcode entry.  But from I have seen I have to convert a postcode in to a Longitude and Latitude reference.  If this is the case I have found two websites which convert Google Maps locations in to the required coordinates.

Hope these help those of you, who like me are a bit confused as to why postcodes may not exist in Nav Pro.

If that's the case then that is shocking. I only ever use postcodes + door number whenever I need the nav (why would anyone use anything less exact?). It would of course be the same on Discover Nav.

That along with the lack ok speed camera alerts are enough to put me off the system before it's even arrived. Wish I'd tried it out more fully before speccing it.

[edit: I realise you can't get more exact than Lat/Long, but what a pain.]

It does have postcode input, if i remember correctly on the page where you can enter the town, it's either bottom left or right and it's just 'PTCD' i think?

Hope that helps (ish)? :D
