Moved from mk2 tt to golf gti mk6
« on: 11 January 2014, 17:58 »
hi folks been reading the forum for two weeks and got so much info from it so thought i'd tell my story.

i sold my mk2 tt and decided to go for a mk6 golf gti. tornado red 2011 plate with 16k on clock, monza shadow, led tailights, rns510 cloth seats.

first thoughts are it feels a lot slower than my tt, is this due to it being a heavier car? may have to map it come summer.

few wee questions:
1. 1 small stone chip on bonnet, is it best to use touch up paint? if so whats best.
2. was advertised as bluetooth but when i press phone it mutes radio, doesnt look as if it has the module? been reading a few topics about this and heard bad reports about connetion with iphone etc? i have ipod connectivity via a lead but take it this doesnt allow phone use?
3. victoria concours wax the only one to be using?
4. any good small mods? on the tt i added led number plate and interior lights, anyone know of any that dont produce an error?
5. read up on tensioner failure on a few gti's - was this ever rectified on later models?

will add photos tomoz, just spent half hour with autosol on those tailpipes and they still have carbon on them.

sorry for long winded post. cheers in advance, cant wait until summer to give her a blast about ayrshire.

Welcome

If it has Bluetooth there may be a module box under the drivers seat.  Does the Bluetooth show up in the MFD?  You need to pair it via MFD first.  Never had any problems with iPhone and Bluetooth.
No, the iPod lead doesn't give phone connectivity
Loads of canbus error free LED's on ebay.  Festoon type for vanity lights and 501 T10's for the others.
Best wax?  Very subjective. Check out the detailing section

Look forward to seeing the pics

if you flash a stage 1 map on a stock engine, you should see gains of around 60bhp (thats where mine is). however, I would recommend an induction kit / air filter and an uprated exhaust system before mapping the ECU. you can see gains of close to 300bhp, however be mindful of the knock on affects on the clutch. I have heard reports of the stock clutch slipping at 300+ bhp.

1. Halfords sell genuine VW touch up kits. I personally wouldn't use one, I'd be tempted to speak to a firm such as 'chips away' and have a decent job done.
2. all GTi MFSW have the bluetooth buttons, but not every car has the upgrade option. there are a few companies around who retrofit such things. I'm in the same boat as yourself, however it's never really bothered me.
3. there is a detailing section on the forum, however for tornado red I would recommend Auto Finesse Spirit wax with 3M Ultrafina polish.
4. here's a link to my build thread: http://forum.un-phased.co.uk/index.php?topic=7521.0 - it will give you an idea of what mods can be done.
5. I believe the 2011 generation build GTi's aren't affect by the tensioner issue, however it would be worthwile to check the info thread on exact dates of the revised parts.

Get it mapped.

Completely different car after. I find myself going from 1st gear to 3rd, missing out 2nd, because I want to preserve my tyres

could be driving position, tt feel more like a go cart. i loved my tt and kept her 4 years from age 22 to 26. insurance was only 250 ish and im paying same for golf. i think the tt still looks a very moden design despite it being released in 06!

my brother bought my tt as he knew i had looked after it.

search ebay for an 'mdi' cable thats compatible for your iphone/samsung/htc. or you can make a cdrom of mp3's that can be copied on to the RNS hd

I don't see the point of the hard drive when it's so easy to connect a iphone/pod, usb or bluetooth device with all the music you are likely to want to carry around with you.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Agreed with what's been said about the mk2 TT still looking very modern,
I'm surprised the design hasn't changed yet.
My 07 TT looks exactly the same as a 2014 one (with 40k mileage), who would pay £30k for a new one when you can get a mint used one for £10k
