MK4 Aum .. Potential Revo Candidate?
« on: 09 January 2014, 20:17 »
Right folks been dossing around these forums for the last few days doing my research on remaps and supporting mods required so before anyone says it i have used the search button a fair few times.

The situation is my golf is in diar need of remap due to the 3" exhaust with sports cat and cold air intake I have on at the moment causing flat spots in my acceleration and the engine management light being on.

I've always been inclined to thinking ill pack a travel bag and head down to Leicester to see the boys at Rtech but after more thought I really can't constitute the expense of a 17 hour , 900mile round trip with an overnight stay just to unlock a few more horseys under the bonnet.

So that leaves my only other option the local motorsport garage Wallace Performance who are a Revo dealer and also have a rolling road.

In order to reach a similar spec of a stage one custom Rtech map I'd need to get a stage 2 revo map which offers approximately 220bhp. And this is where the real question lies according to some dealers the supporting mods required for stage 2 revo are: 2.5"+ Sports exhaust , uprated air intake , forge dv and a 4bar fuel pressure reg. My golf has all these mods except the 4bar fpr (which could be easily added).

Does this sound safe(ish) to you guys or do you think despite what they're saying I should be adding a Fmic and a few other things before attempting this map? Also is anyone running stage 2 revo on there cars just now and with what mods/results?

You will almost certainly need a FMIC for a stage 2 map, along with a decent TIP, air intake and boost pipes. Do not fit a 4bar fpr, the standard 3bar one is perfect for the job.

You will be fine with a revo map you wont have any issues.  Just make sure your car is 100% bang on before booking it in, get the car smoke tested and logged pre map and post map.  The problem now with AUMs which some are over 12years old is the hardware is going weak.  We are seeing more and more AUM come in for mapping with weak fuel pumps, weak actautor and major boost leaks so no matter how good the tuning is the map cannot over come hardware issues which are under laying.  Sytec fuel pumps can be had for £80-90.
You best investment would be a vcds lead for you can log and check your own car pre and post remap.
