What to do to my MK6 Golf
« on: 09 January 2014, 13:18 »
I've had my golf for 1 year now, and I don't know what to do to it, so I'm hoping for ideas!

The car is nearly completely standard, apart from Honey Comb Upper Front Grill - DE badged everything apart from GTD, fitted an airfilter, and have just bought H&R 35mm ( not a lot I know ) lowering Springs. Windows are slightly tinted, but could go darker.

I've tried to fit hids, but its a complete nightmare, but I'm going to try again soon ... but apart from all this, what can I do to my car ... I'm keeping it for the foreseeable future so I want to be happy with it?

Any ideas ?

First off, I'd loose the GTD badge. It makes it look like a wannabe.

Skoda Yeti exhaust tips will be the best £25 you'll spend on it.

I've been toying with the idea of fitting Bluemation/ED35/.:R side skirts and rear spoiler to mine, or an R-line kit.

I've already fitted .:R LED rear lights. I'd like OEM xenons, but really can't justify the expense.

The led rear lights are something Id like, but again, I can't justify £500 for the genuine ones! I've got two tips on the exhaust, not skoda yeti ones but look similar / the same as them! I was thinking a rear spoiler, and I am going to have the wheels painted ... Not a fan of the blue motion kit at all or the r line at all!

You don't need to pay £500 for LED rears. I didn't. Lots of people retro fitted them to their early GTI's and are now moving on to Mk7's so are reverting back to stock before trading in. You just need to either be patient, or to be cheeky and contact people who you think might sell theirs.

Fair point... I'll just be patient ... Price might come down a bit now, because there will be more second hand ones on the market... Have you seen the picture I posted of my car ( the link to flikr ) reckon dark grey wheels or possibly black?

I think it looks spot on how it is !

Maybe some interior mods if you haven't done any as that's what you see most of the time :)

Currently Standard !!

I have seen the picture, which is why I made the comment about the GTD badge.

Personally I think it's the wrong colour car for dark wheels. I think the Vancouvers look just right the way they are.

Apart from the GTD badge, which I'd lose, think it looks good as it is too.  Dark wheels? IMO Black can look good against dark blue, but it would very much depend on the style of wheel.

Have you done the interior LED's?  Little mods like that can make quite a difference.

If I could use photoshop I'd have a play around with different colours, I do think amphasite grey ( I think that's the name of it ) would look good with my car ... I'm getting the GTD bumper for my car, hence why I think I'm going to keep the GTD badge, even if it does make me look like a wanna be ;)

Interior Mod's, not much that can be done really, I've got a decent head unit, don't know the VW name for it ;) I've done little bits and bobs, sill's, drivers foot rest etc etc etc and I do want to swap the interior lights for LED's but I need to know what type of bulb they are . . . anyone know?

If they're the same as the gti, then:

Vanity lights - Festoon 36mm type (ones with 6 led tabs give better brightness).
Map/dome/footwell lights - 501 T10 W5W side lights (some of these are too long and touch the light cover when installed so you need the shorter ones).
Don't think interior lights are monitored but best to get canbus error free.

Plenty on ebay
