Sticking fuel filler cover - not what you want!!
« on: 08 January 2014, 17:57 »
At the fuel station today the fuel cover wouldn't open (not the best time for this to happen...).  I eventually managed to get it to go thankfully, after many attempts.

Got home and checked it out.  The cause was the latch, which rotates as it moves in and out.   Being plastic on plastic it had started sticking, so I just applied some silicon grease to all surfaces and it now works a treat again.

May be worth applying some grease before the problem catches you out too in the fuel queue.

Hope this helps

Seems to be a very common problem. Mine gave me trouble the last time I filled up too and I believe VW are aware of the issue. I must try your silicone grease idea before going to the aggravation of bringing it back to the dealers!
