Wireless SD card possible?

Hi all!

Question for the techies and anyone else who may be interested!  Would it be possible to use a wireless SD card (for example - http://www.eye.fi/products ) with the MK7 (In my case a GTD).

Now i'm assuming it must be powered, so in my case, and quite importantly, when i park my car, it is about 6 metres from my router. Therefore in theory, if i leave my car on for a second, it should be able to transfer music / sync etc? (Again, if sync is possible!) - before i turn the engine off....

Therefore, leave the card in the car, and prepare music with no fiddling?...

Looks to me like that card is expecting to have new files added to it then send them to a device.  Whereas you need it to go the other way around.

Shame as I really like the idea of wirelessly syncing music to the car!

not sure, as it looks like the files are on the pc? - as i can't see them adding files to a camera rom? (Although i might have misread!)

Anyone got one? (Of any kind)

The way I see it, the camera takes files with the SD card in.  If there are new files then a laptop or smartphone can receive them Wirelessly.

In our case we'd need to send files to the car, which would be the camera in the example.  it does't look like it does that...

Ahhhhhh ok, now i get you.... Hmmm so either reverse or a sync required.
the direct mode was a dead end read too.

So what we almost need is a wi-fi enabled sd card that creates its own ad-hoc or alternatlively connects like the eye-fi, but holds an ftp or equivalent storage for reverse send.
This could either make the SD card power hungry, probably not possible, or just make the transfer a bit complicated.

Will keep looking though.

So someone has most likely developed similar for photo frames... the idea is sown.... - hmmmm wondering of any work arounds... - raspberry pi, powered from my car usb.... wireless sync, and then auto sync upon insert of SDCard....

Ok... long winded, but allows me to remove the sd card.... plug it into the Pi.... wait for a green light (or noise, vibrate blah blah)... and then plug back into the car, without leaving the car....

Yup i'm lazy - but i do like things to be simple... SO will endeavour to look at other options.

What we need is a new iPod nano with built in WiFi.
As long as your car is within WiFi range you can sync via iTunes
I might go down this route if/when apple release a WiFi nano.

That is by far the easier option.... just plug in a wireless device - ... (By that i mean - use the old ipod, not the nano, but yes ! - a wireless nano or alternative would be awesome).

(I own no apple stuff, use no apple stuff) - nothing against, just not in that eco bubble.... Might be worth buying a cheaper version for that purpose. (And then join the fruity club).



And hurrahhhhhhhhhh! If you don't mind a really awesome but very geeky read. (perl, javascript, awesome brainpower!) - then it is... technically possible with a lot of geek'fiddling, at least in theory... to do what i want!

Final note...

Another option is to use a flashair card: (ie: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Toshiba-Flash-Class-Wireless-Memory/dp/B00DR590OM )

Little note, the wifiSDcard can power down, so might need an un-plug and re-plug on arrival home (or leaving). And i can't guarantee the power is enough, but should be).

Ok, i should probably just edit the first post... but would love to see this tested....

Ignoring the previous hack, the more open Flash-Air system seems to be the way.
Required:
A flash-air SDHC card
A pc or computer of some kind
The ability to synchronize (And check if available to synchronize. This could and should be possible using most syncing tools...)


The distance may be an issue, i've just double checked, and outside my house, my SD card slot is about 8ft from my router.... So i should be ok.

Some geeky know-how or will to win may be needed.

So in theory... just to test this process, we need someone with a flashair card, and the ability to run the python file (Add a few mp3 files into a folder etc... - go and check the car).


From there, we setting a timing check and send python script. (Could easily raspberrypi-this, so not to hang a pc/computer up)....

Once that is working, should be really simple to bundle up some instructions for all to use w000p!
