K&N Bolt-on or source standard airbox?

Whats peoples thoughts on this?
My son has just bought first car, 1985 mk2 1.3
A friend has already given me a brand new Webcon replacement kit, the troublesome peirberg on it now is shrouded with ram-air foam filter thing.

Standard air box, k&n will do bugger all apart from increase carb freezing in cold weather
