Door sill protector

Hi all,

I'm new(ish) to the forum and have just received a lovely Carbon Grey GTi mk7. Suffice to say I'm very pleased with it :-)

I asked the dealer not to remove any of the stickers etc and not to wash it so I've collected it 'raw'. I've removed various protective stickers but there are two that I'm not sure about and need your advice please. In the pic below (copied from someone else), I have a transparent plastic sticker in the circled area of both door. It's just like the paint protection film you get, but a little thicker.

Do all have cars have this or should it be removed?

I also notice that a reasonable amount of water collects in the doors when it rains. When I open the door in the morning often a cupful of water falls out. It's not leaking inside but I'd expect this to drain and not get caught in the bottom of the door. Perhaps related to the pieces of plastic I've found??

I actually noticed that on my CSG today, I think it should be there just clean the build up of dirt and you won't notice it

They all come with the plastic protection you have highlighted. It's personal preference if you want to remove it or not. Some have removed and some have retained it, I've chosen to keep it although dirt can get underneath it which doesn't look great.

I have a fair amount of water that seems to gather only on the passenger side door. Like you it doesn't enter the car so I'm not too worried about it.

I removed it after a couple of weeks. It was going noticeably yellow and dirt / grit was getting in under it. Pointless to leave it on, it offers no protection that I can tell.

How did you remove it? Seems pretty solid and well held in place! I was thinking of trying tar remover but would be good to hear how you managed it.

It just peeled off, like a thick strip of sellotape! No effort or tar removers or anything required.
