It's worth remembering that the red one works fine on an iPhone 5 using the apple lightning adapter (artwork shows, etc).  This might be a bit cheaper for folk who can't get the new lead for free from their dealer.

Car Systems are now selling them:

EDIT: It is a different revision number to listed earlier in this thread and has a white collar. I'm not sure on the difference.

Thanks for the replies, think I'll just go for the adapter as I've the iPhone 4S red collar lead already.

Cheers

The GTD I'm picking up tomorrow had the older lead installed, but the lightening version in the same cubby hole in packaging. The 1.6TDI that was pre-reg in September that I'm also picking up had the old style lead. Reading this thread, should I expect the dealer to replace that lead with the more modern one, or stump up for it?

My wife and I both have newer iPhones that need the lightening lead.

I would certainly ask the dealer to supply the Lightning lead - mine came with the 30-pin adapter, but my dealer sent me a Lightning lead yesterday, FOC.

The GTi I took a look in on Monday this week was a bit of a strange one...

It had the "newer" USB connector behind the cubby hole flap, but still had a MDI style cable in the glove box.  So they were still sending MDI cables with a car that no longer has a MDI connector

This was a GTi that had just arrived and not PDi'd yet..
Ordered 06/01/14.  5DR GTD DSG, Red. Park Assist | Rear Camera | Keyless entry | Dynaudio | Winter Pack | Pro Nav.

Same with my car it came with the MDI leads in the glove box but I couldn't use them

We picked up our Mk7 GTi today and it came with the blue collar as standard. I had asked for the lightning version to be thrown in as part of the deal so I was presented with a lead but from memory it's a white collar. Anyway, it doesn't connect my phone not does it charge it. Just keeps making a noise likes it's trying to connect as if it was a loose connection!
