there are lots of people out there doing rebuilt heads so you can probably get a really good price if you can ring around.

I can't see it being the head whatsoever.

Well if water got into the engine it would be in with the fuel in the bore getting through the valves but instead of being burnt the piston would push the water i to the valves which could slightly bend them.
that could cause the low compression on 1 cylinder or more.

Rod bent so slightly shortened by the sounds,no chance of doing valves through hydrolocking.
