£500 import duty?!

Car parts have an import duty rate of 2.7% and VAT of 20%, meaning that you'll pay a little over £80 in import charges.

Ok, Now I know I'm going to get flamed for suggesting this but hey ho I will talk from experience.

MAXSPEEDING rods on ebay are absolutely fine to use. They are non riffle drilled but they are fine.
There are many many huge power 1.8t's running these exact rods.

Few guys on Facebook running these on 500bhp cars with no drama.

I have a set to fit to mine also. I have used them and seen them used in N/A cars revving to 9k+ RPM with no issues.

All the big name brand rods are made in china so don't let that aspect put you off.

Dan@BeachBuggyTurbos runs these rods in his Audi TT as well.

If you offer him £190 he will accept it. I have just purchased 2 more sets just yesterday.

I wouldn't of bought them if they were poo!

Everyone bangs on about how important riffle drilled are and I agree if you can afford to pay extra then go for it by all means.

These rods are just as strong as any other and it has been proved they are slightly lighter than other brands.

If they are good enough for cars running 450-500bhp+ they are fine for me.

Dan has been running decent power through his for quite a while now.

It's your choice how you spend your monies but for me these are a very good option.

Found out yesterday that there are a few guys on FaceBook vag page running 500bhp through them.
Ill never get near that so they will do me just fine.

Like I say I bought another 2 sets last night to fit in friends cars.

The people on FB are running them with ACL rod bearings which is what I bought.

That's impossible to know, some people only change the rods and bigend bearings.

A compression check whilst its still together would help make that decision,

It seems rude not to fit rings since its coming apart,
For the sake of and extra £60-£80 for a set of rings. I'm fitting Goatze rings to mine.

I won't be fitting it all until the summer..

I'm not an expert or anything, I have a few friends who will be lending a hand with the install.

Im away from home at the moment but as soon as I get back I'll post some pics of the rods.

There was a huge debate on FB about riffle drilled Vs Non and it seems most of those who were shouting that riffle drilled are the only rods to buy were the people who didn't have any kind of rods other than standard.

There is no denying that they are better, But is it as important as people make out?
Seems not as for every 1 person who posted stating they had riffle drilled, another 2 posted that they had non-drilled rods in their cars.

IE still sell Non-drilled rods, If they were that bad I really doubt a big name like IE would put their name on them.

It all comes down to budget, If you can spare £500 for a set of rods plus bearings and fitting kit then go for it.

I don't have that money so I bought these instead.

do you no where I can get the full kit. I would have no problems spending 500 or 600 on a kit.
also I don't think that rifle drilling is important unless your going above 500bhp.
As for fitting it I have never done rods before but I bought a Haynes manual so ill give it a go myself

Issam Abed does a full kit for 800usd, Think it works out about £600.

Comes with eveything, including cambelt, head gasket kit, water pump. 2 oil filters, bearings, sump sealer.

Its a good kit.
