I have finally managed to get myself a gti, only taken me 40 years, but one came up at a good price, and was what I wanted, a project car.Its a Y reg AZJ 152K on the clock
It has so many faults, (so far I've done the airbag light, starter motor whine, and slack handbrake)
but the main one I am struggling with is
its showing fault codes 17526, and 17606, which indicates a heater circuit fault on the post cat lambda, is this likely to actually be a wiring issue, or a shot sensor.I think its been run like it since at least the last mot, and since it no longer has an mot, I need to get it sorted or its not going to get one.
Its also showing 17704, which is either the thermostat, or the coolant sensor I think, is there a test I can do to try and isolate it, the pipe from the thermostat housing to the rad is warmish at 90C on the dial.
I have a U281 code reader so have limited info.When I cleared off the codes, 17526 came back within 5 seconds of starting up.The others have yet to reappear.
Any guidance greatfully received, I am hoping to get this car sorted over the next few months, and then keep it as a hobby, as it seems relatively simple mechanically for a novice like me.
