Got my GF well trained ;)
« on: 25 December 2013, 22:13 »
Got the Auto Glym The Collection Perfect Bodywork and Wheels set for Christmas but not 100% sure when is best to use all them (how often) and best way to apply/remove the product and at what point in the washing process.

Sorry if my sequence makes people cry... im doing my best I promise.

Inside
1. Hover the inside seats, carpets and mats.
2. Using Mr Sheen Multi surface polish clean all the surfaces with microfiber cloth.
3. Buff the windows (not got any window cleaner at the mo something missing for my collection kit need to get)

Outside
1. Rinse car with water.
2. I got some snow foam but its not that good I don't think (Car plan Demon Foam as it come with foam gun)
3. Leave foam for about 3-4 mins for foam til nearly gone from car and rinse again.
4. Using warm water 2 bucket method with a lambs wool mit, wash each panel at a time rinsing with hose after each panel (currently using Turtle Zip Wax but have got some Meguiars Gold Class car wash to go onto) starting with roof, then windows, bonnet then working round the car.
5. Rinse how car off a final time.
6. Spray Auto Glym clean wheels onto the alloy and using a mirco fibre hand mit wash the alloys using wheel brush to get inside.
7. Dry car with large microfiber cloth
8. Wipe round the doors boot and bonnet for spots missed.
9. Spray Auto Glym Alloy wheel seal and whip off/ rub in the excess.
10. Using Auto Glym Metal Polish clean exhaust tips inside and out.

So my question is how many people are crying after reading what I do to my car, the wheel side of it I think I got. But the resin polish and gloss protection im a bit unsure on, btw its a candy white car if that makes much difference.

Thanks

Thats not too bad tbh mate, the only thing i would say is don't use house polish for your interior surfaces, get something more suitable, and did you rinse the wheels cleaner well? As the autoglym stuff seems quite acidic to me so haven't used it for a while now.

The furniture polish works really well I think tbh lol, im looking at getting the interior kit then ill have the glass stuff as well cos the windows could do with some attention.

Yea I rinse everything with gallons and gallons of water, I think I prob spend more rinsing then doing anything else!

I always start with wheels first as then if you do get any of the spray on your paintwork it will get washed off whilst you're wiping your car down.

How would you rate the wheel seal? Is it like a wax for the wheels?

Na i wouldnt call it a wax its a spray on from a rattle can, once rubbed in and drys it forms a protective clear coating thats hard and durable, if you missed a spot you cant then wipe the dirt off it seals it all in until the next wash where it washes off.

Ive never used a wheel sealant before so cant really comment on if its good or bad or how it acts compared with other products

How olds ya car? SRP by definition is a polish so if ya car is new then you shouldn't be polishing it, if its a bit older then its great but I'd be following it with a filler to get rid of any minor swirls the SRP has missed.

The demon shine snow foam will do the trick until you get some other stuff, the key here is letting it dwell long enough but not too long before rinsing. I usually say once the bubble have stopped running down the car it's stopped doing anything.

As said, clean wheels first.

Snow foam - spray it on and then go fill up your buckets for the 2 bucket wash.  By the time you've done this the snow foam will be ready to be jet washed off.  I rate Bilt Hamber Auto Foam but lots of good one's available.

Rinsing - always use open ended hose for final rinse and if you live in hard water area, NEVER let water spots dry on.  If necessary, rinse whole car, then go back and rinse panel by panel, drying each one off as you go.  If you have soft water then you are lucky

The car is June 2010 and as its only candy white no metallic paint its still in pretty good condition. Im thinking about getting it professionally detailed for the summer in about april/may time then should be easy for me to keep on top of.

So if the paint is in good condition there isn't much need for the SRP then?

What about the extra gloss protection paintwork sealant when is best to use this and how often... and how best to use it never used it before.

I never used any sealant on my CW just a decent wax. I think I always had decent results. Your detailer will give you the basis for a great looking car. Personally I'd keep it clean until then just in case you make his/her job any harder and then keep on top of their work.
