Please tell me those auto dimming rear view mirrors aren't as crap as i think??

My brother picked up his GT TDI (02 plate) 130 & spoke to me about how crap his rear view mirror was. When he described it, i said oh it'll be one of those auto dimming ones.

Not experiencing one myself i hopped in & we went for a drive - i drove.

My God!! What a total piece of sh!t it is. It's like driving with someone elses glasses on where everything is kinda blurred. We were on the motorway & i was wondering how many people were behind me. Is that 1 set of lights? Is it 2? Can't quite tell, everything is blending in & separating at the same time. WTF?!??

It's a mirror with an oval piece in the centre of it.

He's on about whipping it out & replacing with a normal one. Are they always that crap?

Sounds like some one has stuck a crappy little mirror on top of it. Never saw one with some oval mirror at the middle of it.

Could be that the mirror itself is faulty. I installed one in mine and found it really good

Mine works as it should but there is a very slight ghosting on there, really only noticeable when you're looking for it.

It looks sort of tinted like the one in the top left of that pic, but you can see a sort of oval like shape in the centre. I'll try & get a photo up for you so you can see but not convinced it'll show properly.

Dodgy install? Possibly. I don't know who's had this car previous but it was a bloody rough arse. The drivers door handle (on the inside) has been ripped out lol. You have to pull it using the door card.
