Question?? Power steering and MOT
« on: 25 August 2005, 17:06 »
Right MK2 16v with dodgy power steering pump.. Makes hideous noise when on full or near lock, other than that just stiff.. Took it in for MOT today and they have failed it, I find this very strange as it has past the last 2 years like it.. Is this norm or should i take it for another opinion??

i'd get it looked at and fixed if i was you, can't be doing too much good if its making all sorts of noises! also its probably got worse over the past two years so might have failed this time and just scraped through the last time. :undecided:

Cheers, but pain in the ass.. Took it to a independent VW many moons ago, they said it was the actual pump gone, said a MK3 would fit, tracked one down and NO, apparently 8mm too small.. So, got one from breakers yard £40 and took it to another garage to fit on, they said it was it was worse than the one already on there, apparently steering by itself - so they put the old one on, said it took him all day, got charged £250+ for labour

I personally don't know what's wrong with it, air bubbles come up in the PS fluid when it makes the sound, like air leaking into it.

My point is though, how can it fail the MOT??? If it ain't working, it'sjust the same has having a car without PS, surely????ÂÂÂ
