Hi Katie,

Welcome to the club. A mk2 1.3 was my second golf, I upgraded from a mk1 1.0! They are great little runabouts, handle nicely and if it's your first car it's remarkably practical.

With regards to making it an easier car to drive - depending on where you live, I would advise against coilovers. I bought my GTi with coilovers from someone who lives in the country outside Bath. However in London it's horrid. So think about how many speed bumps are near you. With mine lowered 48m it can scrap the front (big) spoiler as you come off.
You might want to look at fitting a weighted mk3 shift rod. - I know that helped the gear feel on my GTi other people will let me know if this is a good idea on a 1.3.

Mk3 wiper relay is a nice mod so you can change the intermittent timings on your wipers. - quick easy and cheap too.
X4MGS - a regular on here, has a good ebay shop for genuine VW bits. I try to avoid GSF and eurocarparts as they kit is quite ropey a lot of the time. VWheritage are worth a go for a fair few things.
The last tip I can think of is, if you ever get really stuck and need advice, ask; if Rubjonny helps you - listen to him - he is always on the money!

Golf GTi 8v mk2 1990
Coilovers, BBS RA, K&N Induction Kit...

Not on this site he's not.  Feel free to buy from him on ebay - if you have deep pockets.

As he been banned from here as well?

I see he's still asking £50 for a 20 year old 16V front badge.

The 1.3 has an automatic choke, if it's still running the pierberg, or mine did anyway.

If your really into big bumper, go for it, personally, I went from big to small on my (originally) 1.3, small bumpers look great  :afro:

Leather interiors can be picked up for a couple of hundred quid from mk3s and be modified to fit.

More importantly than all that, where are the pictures?

Back on topic, if you've got the space, I think that the idea of buying a rotten GTI and swapping the trim over will make quite a difference. A nice radio with bluetooth, ipod etc and a decent set of speakers will give it a more up to date feel inside.

As others have said, it will always drive like a 25 year old car, but that's all part of the charm.

Did the 1.3s have a cigarette lighter?

A-Z.
It's a mk2. Fill it, drive it, enjoy it.
